“RED APRICOTS”
“Red Apricots” was written in my bedroom studio during the pandemic in 2021. It is the second single from the debut album. The title was inspired by the discarded empresses and concubines throughout history. Chinese literature has an expression for women in this position: the red apricot. ‘She was like a red apricot leaning over the palace wall and down toward the street…’ I wanted to use this description of these women as fruit on the vine growing in the ‘wrong direction’, and take back some power for them. ~ Bella Panic
